  • If you elect to simply pay any fine associated with a civil traffic citation, you are admitting guilt and will be convicted of the offense as charged. A conviction for traffic offense will cause adverse consequences to your driving record. As provided for under Florida Statutes, conviction of various traffic offenses cost you to be assessed anywhere from three to six points against your driving record depending on the nature of the offense. Please understand that the accumulation of 12 points within 12 months will cause you to lose your driving privilege for up to 30 days. The accumulation of 18 points within 18 months will result in your driving privilege being suspended up to 3 months, and 24 points assessed against your driving record within 36 months will cause you to lose your driving privilege for up to one year. In computing points and suspensions, the dates of all convictions are used.

Please remember that serving a point suspension does not prohibit these convictions from being used to accumulate additional suspensions or revocations. Furthermore, a conviction for traffic offense may also result in higher auto insurance premiums even though that offense is not associated with a traffic crash. If you are issued a citation and are accused of contributing to a traffic crash, you should consult with an attorney prior to paying the fine.

Offenses such as Driving under the influence and reckless driving are examples of criminal traffic offense which are very serious and carries severe penalties and possibly incarceration for even a first offense. Pleading to a criminal traffic charge or resolving your criminal case at first appearance will cause adverse consequences the effects of which may be devastating. If you are charged with driving under the influence or any other criminal traffic offense, please contact an attorney to represent you.
